Hey Everyone!
Last week we kicked off our collab with Loaf Central and explained how it all came about & what to expect for the next month or so 🙂 This week we are gonna talk about our time spent in Mammoth Lakes and show some of our favorite photos. During the trip, we obviously had a new focus for our content, being we were setting out for a very “lookbook” type of style while still expressing our “indigo” style of work. We hope you enjoy these photos and if you haven’t already, check out Loaf Central’s official website HERE & check it out on the gram HERE. Now its time to break down our trip…
.
We started our road trip on a Friday after Myles was freed from work. Our trip was going to be a relatively short one do to the fact that none of us took off any workdays ;P The plan was to drive from Scott’s house to Mammoth Lakes right at 5pm, the total car ride was probably gonna take 5 hours, so once we got to Mammoth we would check in and just take it easy and get some rest. Having Myles join us was a fun and different experience for us, especially all the different rest stops we had to go to because Myles has the smallest bladder in the world 😉 haha. We had lots of fun vlogging, listening to music, and just talking about all the things we wanted to see in Mammoth, Myles was especially stoked because Mammoth is one of his favorite places. We had finally got to the motel to check in at around 10pm and we were all pretty hungry by this point, so after we put all our luggage in the room we went to Vons to get some food. Being in Mammoth was such a nice change of scenery, even though it was dark outside, we were all so happy to be by the snow and just a change from our regular atmosphere. The week prior to us being there was the first big snow fall that had hit the mountain, so it was kinda like Mammoth’s first big weekend of the season. We got back to our room and were eager to get some sleep and start our adventure in the morning.
.
Our alarms went off at 5:30am, and we all snooze a little longer before getting out of bed, for Scott and I, this was a normal thing we do while on our trips, so Myles had to follow suit with our early morning routine 😉 We had to be out of the motel by 6am in order to give us enough time to capture the sunrise at Convict Lake, which was about a 15 minute drive. Once we got there, Scott and Myles got out of the car to look at the lake and the area around it, while I stayed in the car because I was cold and still sleepy 😉 I told Scott to wake me up when the sun started to peak onto the mountain so I could get a couple film shots too 🙂 Myles was super stoked to be at the lake, and layered up in one of his Loaf looks. Scott and him took pictures for a good 45 minutes until I got out of the car to take some pictures too. You can see some photos from the spot below, and see just how amazing it was.

Myles loves to skateboard, so we obviously wanted to incorporate his skating skills into the photos and videos we shot of him. Scott got a lot of action shots of Myles doing tricks and riding along the lake, it made for a unique look in this nature setting. Once the sun was fully out, we jumped in the car and ventured a little further down the road to see the other end of the lake. Here, is where I decided to “loaf up” and put on a stylish hockey jersey designed by Myles. All 3 of us grabbed our equipment and took some more videos and pictures at the other end of the lake, no one was around us, so we had the whole lake to ourselves.

By this time, it was 8am and none of us had eaten anything so our tummies were starting to grumble, and we headed back to Mammoth Village to go to a great bagel spot called “New York Bagel Co.” After we got our fill from the yummy bagels, we decided to go up Mammoth Mountain to see where we would end up. A lot of cabins were lined up as we entered an area where it looked like an open space for us to explore. To our surprise, the open area we were looking at was actually a giant frozen lake! We were very cautious and made sure it was safe to walk on the lake, it was so much fun standing on the ice, and we were amazed that we could walk on the lake! We took the opportunity to do some drone flying here because it was such an epic spot.

We took some pictures and videos for a good hour before heading back to the car, and our next stop was the Volcom Brothers skate park to get some skate shots of Myles. Again, Myles is an awesome skate boarder and we really wanted to showcase that in our pictures and videos for the Loaf brand. Scott and Myles had briefly been to this skate park years ago when they traveled on a boys trip, but this was my first time seeing the skate park. As we got out of the car, I was really eager to see what it would be like (never really been to a skate park before besides the one at Venice beach) and luckily for us no one else was there! We had the whole park to ourselves and I felt like a little kid running around the dome areas pretending to do flips and what not 😉 Scott and I started taking pictures of Myles and it was really fun and different to take photos of someone skating, I really enjoyed having to wait for the perfect timing to get the right shot. After I snapped a few film pictures, I had the bright idea to get my roller blades out of the car and try out the skate park! It was so much fun, I love roller blading just for fun and this place was perfect for that.

When Myles was all pooped out from skating, we all decided to go back to the room to relax for a little before our next excursion. We showered and relaxed for about an hour and a half, then got ready to grab some lunch, there was a really yummy pizza place we had our eyes on, so we went there for a bite before driving to the hot springs. The hot springs had been something we wanted to check out ever since we got back from our Eastern Sierras road trip, so we made sure to check it out while we were in Mammoth. The hot springs are located near Crowley Lake which is a very popular photography spot for people looking for a nice, outdoorsy feel in there photos. Driving in, we saw tons of deer off in the distance, it was so crazy how many there were! Driving into the Crowley Lake parking lot was quite a mission, it’s not on a paved road so we were driving on top of gravel most of the time. Arriving at the parking lot, LOTS of people were here, some wearing bathing suits eager to test out the hot springs, us on the other hand had no interest in going in (not this time!) We got to the hot springs at about 2pm, so the sun was settled nice in the sky and it made for an even tone through out the landscape. The sky was so blue and clear and the tall yellow brush made the photos have such a nice composition. We shot Myles out in the fields and slowly made our way closer to the hot springs. As we started going down a down hill path, we could see a group of people in a natural hot spring, it was so cool that this was out here. I had to test out the water and Myles wanted to check it out too so we both went to the edge of the giant spring and stuck our hand in, YEP IT’S HOT IN THERE! The water was very murky, but I could imagine it being really nice to sit back in the hot spring and enjoy some fresh air. Scott didn’t want to touch the water because he thought it was gross lol. After we tested out the water, we were ready to head back to the car, Scott wanted to get some shots of Myles skateboarding down the big highway we had driven on heading to Crowley Lake.

We drove out of the gravel road and back on the regular highway to take some more pics. As we were taking photos and videos of Myles skateboarding on the road something amazing happened…. Out of no where, 11 deer came running across the road while Myles was skating, it was the craziest thing I had EVER seen. I had never seen soo many deer in my life! I love deer SO much so I was really geeking out ;P The best part is that we got it all on camera! We can’t wait to share it with you! Probably will be on the Mammoth vlog video! After witnessing the greatest thing in the world, we got back in the car and drove back to where we were staying, we needed a bathroom break before getting ready to take our sunset pictures for the day. We thought of just driving up the mountain where all the snow was to get some good shots of the sunset. After taking pictures, we decided to do some creative vlogging which then lead to a snowball fight. The sun had gone down so a lot of people were getting in their cars and heading back down to the village for dinnertime so we packed up our stuff and waited in the traffic going down the mountain. We got to the room and freshened up till about 7pm. We didn’t know where we wanted to go to dinner so we just decided to make our way to the village to see if we could snag a table somewhere, but that wasn’t the case. EVERY single restaurant couldn’t accommodate us because we had gotten there after 7pm when apparently everyone had already made reservations for 6pm. So that was kinda annoying, but we made the best of it and found a really cool Mexican restaurant inside the town area. We still had to wait for an hour for a table but at least we found a place to eat 😉 After our giant meals, we definitely had a little food coma going on. We were all ready to lay in bed and watch TV till we fell asleep..
.
…The alarm goes off at 5:30am again and I’m not doing a good job waking up. Scott is very good at waking up early in the morning where I am not. Myles watched Scott and I battle it out until I finally got out of bed to get ready. The plan was to go back to Crowley Lake to watch the sunrise over the mountains, we thought it would be a pretty awesome place. We left the hotel a little late (due to me) and then got even more far behind because we had to put gas in the car. We were all eager to get to the spot to see if we could still make it before the sun started to come out. Thankfully, Crowley Lake is only 15-20mins away from where we were staying. We got to the lake and found a few cars parked there. The sun had just started to peak out, so Scott lead the way to find a good spot to set up the camera. We had really liked a big open area where a lake was facing the mountains so we set up just about there. We also did some shots of just Myles wearing his Loaf gear, it was pretty cold outside so he was bundled up in layers of Loaf. We had some fun taking videos of each other and some photos too until the sun had stopped rising and just settled in the sky.

The photos from that morning came out cool, but it wasn’t exactly what we thought it would look like for sunrise at this location, but hey, at least we tried! By this time, it was 8am and we had to go back to the room to pack up all our stuff and check out. The trip had gone by SUPER fast but that’s what its like when you only have a day and a half to get everything you desired! For our last hoorah, we decided to do the Mammoth Scenic Loop once we checked out of the motel. We had to be out by 11am, but we were a little early and were good to go by 10! The car was back to being fully packed and we were ready to do one last adventure before our 5 hour car ride home! It was such a beautiful day we were lucky to have gotten to spend our last few hours in Mammoth enjoying it. As we started the loop we saw beautiful trees covered in snow and little areas where sledding was going on. We saw a spot that looked really cool so we pulled over to do some drone flying and record a “snow ball fight.” Being at this spot was probably one of my favorites because it was so untouched by humans. The snow was so perfect and new, I truly felt connected to nature here 🙂 After Scott got his droning done, we got back in the car and continued the scenic drive. We were about halfway through when we saw another really cool area where lot and lots of trees were scattered in a woodsy area. We played around with the tree elements giving it a “lost in the woods” feel following Myles. We also enjoyed the road at this point, and Scott wanted another shot of Myles skating so we took some skating shots again with Myles kicking ass! After we were satisfied we hopped back in the car and finished the rest of the drive before getting spit out back on Highway 395. It was the perfect exiting maneuver for us, because we got some last minute shots before our long drive ahead of us. It was about noon when we started our drive back home. I drove most of the way home giving Scott a break from driving so much 🙂 Driving back was really fun and we all talked a lot about how we accomplished a short trip, getting all the shots we needed 🙂 It was definitely a mission for us to get everything we needed with just 1.5 days of shooting! Myles was super pumped for all the stuff we shot with the Loaf clothes and we were all so happy that we got to work on this collab together. Doing something different like this trip was a test for Scott and I to see how we work with an outside brand for future projects, it’s something we are really interested in incorporating into our blog, but know we have to work hard to get to that point 🙂 We hope you guys enjoyed this blog post & liked the pictures we included in the text. Somewhat of a “lookbook” type of writing post on this one 🙂 Stay tuned for our full Loaf Collab video, we cant wait to show you!!
